What’s a fun fact about me many people may not know?
BBQ Pit Boss – I love cooking and as a high school student I seriously contemplated going to culinary school to become a professional chef. This didn’t happen because at graduation I was offered a 4-year baseball scholarship by Cal State Los Angeles, and I accepted the offer. That said, I still love to cook and about 15 years ago I bought a smoker and started smoking meat. My entry into smoking meat was riddled with mistakes and it’s an absolute miracle my family and friends could tolerate those first few smokes. But tolerate they did and over time my skills improved to the point I became the Pit Boss at Valley Christian High School where I smoked 200lbs of Tri Tip at every Friday night home football game. The smoked Tri Tip was then sliced and a team of volunteers, under my direction, would make Tri Tip sandwiches. Then following my youngest daughter’s graduation from Valley Christian, I retired as the Valley Christian BBQ Pit Boss and was quickly asked to become the same at SeaCoast Grace Church in Cypress where I remain today.
What is your favorite movie?
Field of Dreams – For anyone who loves the game of baseball and has watched this movie, ask them if the last scene of the movie brings them to tears? For me, each and every time I watch that movie the waterworks show up because it takes me back to some of the best days of my life playing catch with my dad in the front yard.
What is your favorite travel destination?
Maui where my wife and I have owned a 2-bedroom ocean front villa with a major timeshare operator on Kaanapali Beach for about 20 years.
